Happy Baby

Happy Baby (done incorrectly)

Many students will lift there butt off the ground: the tailbone needs to be pressed along the ground to get the deepest stretch: if the tailbone starts to come off the ground, the student must adjust the location of the hands on the feet/legs until the tailbone is rooted to the Earth. This is a common mistake students make when doing this pose. Cue "Tailbone to the ground" to ensure students don't do this wrong.

Happy Baby

Traditionally, the feet are grabbed while the knees are bent at a 90 degree angle. The student can rock or stay still (it is encouraged to stay still in Yin Yoga). There are many variations on where to hold in this pose, and a strap is an option to make the grip strong (just remind students to not be attached (or super yang) with the strap grab as it can cause tension in the hands.

Happy Baby

Shoulders should be flat on the ground as well.

Happy Baby (Inside Sole)

Grabbing the sole of the foot stimulates the Kidney Meridian and also is an modification to open the hips.

Happy Baby (Toe Grab)

Grabbing the toes stimulates different meridian lines and also makes the pose more challenging.

Happy Baby (Ankles)

Grabbing the ankles makes the pose easier and keeps the tailbone to the Earth. Students can also grab the shins if that makes it easier.
